Travelling around England...

This weekend was absolutely fantastic and adventurous as well :)
Me and some friends decided to rent a car and leave Colchester back… our adventure started, firstly in Oxford City =) it’s a wonderful town and is known as “The City of Dreaming Spires, I think all of we fall in love for it, since the first exchanging glances. Oxford as we all know is famous for its ancient University and place of history. For over 800 years, it has been a home to royalty and scholars, and since the 9th century an established town, although the people are known to have lived in the area for thousands of years. We saw lots of the traditional oxford architecture, we’ve visited the “Radcliffe Camera”: “The Bridge of Sighs”; “The Oxford Church” (where we assisted to a wonderful Choral Concert); the Oxford University, we’ve been walking in the town centre and shopping, and so on…Two really nice days in Oxford. After that, we went to Salisbury that is a cathedral city in Wiltshire, England and is unique amongst medieval English cathedrals. The Salisbury Cathedral is commemorating the 750th anniversary and we have been there :) . The building is itself remarkable, a testimony to the faith and practical skills of those who erected it. But it is much more than a historical monument. It is the Cathedral of the Salisbury diocese and so the Mother Church of several hundred parishes in Wiltshire and Dorset. It is a centre of pilgrimage for hundreds of thousands of visitors every year. Above all it’s a place of prayer and I just loved to be there!
After been wondering in Salisbury we road to Stonehenge & Bath. Stonehenge is a prehistoric monument located in the English county of Wiltshire, in the west of Amesbury and 13 kilometers from north of Salisbury. One of the most famous prehistoric places in the world, Stonehenge is composed of earthworks surrounding a circular setting of large standing stones. Archaeologists had believed that the iconic stone monument was erected around 2500 BC. However one recent theory has suggested that the first stones were not erected until 2400-2200 BC, whilst another suggests that bluestones may have been erected at the site as early as 3000 BC. The surrounding circular earth bank and ditch, which constitute the earliest phase of the monument, have been dated to about 3100 BC. The site and its surroundings were added to the UNESCO's list of World Heritage Sites in 1986 in a co-listing with Avebury henge monument, and it is also a legally protected Scheduled Ancient Monument. Stonehenge itself is owned by the Crown and managed by English Heritage while the surrounding land is owned by the National Trust. Even with so much cold, it was really nice to know the marvellous and landmarked STONEHENGE!
Bath was the next town that we’ve visited. Bath was already an adventure =) and when we were returning to Essex, Colchester, we went to Windsor =) just to say hi for the Prince Henry that invited us to a royal dinner in the Windsor's castle. Thanks Henry, we just love to be there ;)
Pretty weekend, lot’s of pictures, adventurous moments, things that we will never forget!
